About Isla

Isla began with a love of land, animals, plants, and the quiet beauty of building a life close to nature.

The name Isla is an homage to both of our heritages. We were drawn to its Celtic and Scottish roots, and to the way it also means island in Spanish, a word that connects to my partner’s Puerto Rican heritage. For us, the name holds both meanings at once: a place of belonging, a piece of earth shaped by water and time, and a small world of its own.

Our own small world is a homestead in Upstate New York, where we live with two dogs, a cat, chickens, ducks, Angora and Alpine goats, and a growing number of beehives. What started with a few chickens slowly became something much bigger. We adopted goats who needed a home, then more goats who needed a home, and somewhere along the way the daily work of caring for animals became part of who we are.

Isla is rooted in that same feeling: care, connection, and the belief that beautiful things can come from living more closely with the natural world.

Our work is inspired by native plants, birds, pollinators, fruit trees, food gardens, and the changing rhythm of the seasons. We are drawn to plants that do more than decorate a landscape, plants that feed birds, shelter insects, restore soil, and bring life back to the places around us. Flowers, birds and the hum of bees in summer are part of the world we want Isla to reflect.

This brand is our way of carrying that world outward. Each piece is a small tribute to the land we tend, the animals we care for, and the native beauty that surrounds us. It is clothing shaped by homestead life, ecological wonder, heritage, and a deep love for the living things that make a place feel like home.

Isla is for people who want to wear something rooted in nature, in memory, in care, and in the dream of making the world a little more alive.
